Practical information
Newtontoppen is very remote on Spitsbergen, Svalbard. We recommend that you have good margins on your flights, should there be weather changes and challenges along the way.
The map shows the route we drive to get to Atomfjella and Newtontoppen. It is 180 km each way, but the last bit makes it extra challenging, as we move outside Management Area 10. Then tourists cannot drive their own scooters, they must be transported by local people.
We arrange camp when we arrive at Newtontoppen. Depending on the weather conditions, we may use another location for camp. For those of us who travel a lot in the mountains, we know that the weather can change quickly.
We arrange tents and shared tent equipment. Sleeping bags and sleeping mats can be rented. Ski and avalanche equipment can also be rented if you do not have this yourself.
